As an experienced writer and editor with a PhD in English and Cultural Studies from McMaster University, I’m passionate about working at the intersection where language, justice, and ethics meet. In my past lives, I’ve worked as a professor in the field of postcolonial literature at various Ontario-based universities and as an associate editor at Broadview, North America's oldest continuously published magazine. These days, I am a freelance journalist and editor who is dedicated to making well-researched prose and relevant content accessible to everyone.
I strive to convey nuanced ideas about the world with clarity, care, and sophistication, and to help others do the same.
I also offer a full scope of writing and editing services to a wide-ranging clientele, as well as a genuine spirit of support. My niche is empowering academics to write for broader audiences by honing journalistic methods and techniques.
I emphasize writing as a creative and critical process, and accompany aspiring and experienced writers at every stage and in every discipline across the humanities and social sciences.
Behind all my work is a deeply held belief in the power of language to transform how we think, how we feel, and how we live. My home is the rural artistic village of Elora, Ont., near Guelph, where I love to frequent local cafes and wander aimlessly. That image on my home page, however, is of the spectacular Skellig Michael, a rugged and remote rock off the Atlantic coast near County Kerry, Ireland.
